Reply:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

If you are hosting an adult event and someone shows up with a child, what do you do?

My house is not child proofed and the parents don't supervise their child.

If you are hosting an adult event and someone shows up with a child, what do you do?
If your invitation clearly indicated that it was an adult event and children weren't welcome, you would be 100% justified to inform them again, after they arrived, that children are not welcome. You wouldn't have to worry too much about being tactful at that point.

If your invitation was less clearly-worded, then you'd need to more carefully consider what you would do. Perhaps suck it up and learn from your mistake, and make things much more clear in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, parents who don't supervise their children are being rude and tactless and don't deserve a whole lot of consideration. However, the other people at the party might think you are being rude if you kicked them out when the invitation wasn't worded clearly.
Reply:let them know that it is an adult party and that the next time to leave their child at home but dont ask them to leave that is rude
Reply:I had a birthday party for my husband a few years back and when I sent out the invitations I specified that it was a adult only party. I still had a couple that showed up with their kid. When the others saw that this couple brought their kid they went home and got their kids. Needless to say, my party was ruined. I had kids running all over the place. I was not able to serve the cake, since it was too adult for little eyes. I had a big fiasco on my hands. I also had a big mess to clean up from unruly kids. I have a child and he was at a babysitter! I think that if you plan an adult only party someone who has a child should make other arrangements or plan not to attend. I think there will still be that one person who will think that they are exempt though. Manners have just gone right out the windows these days!
Reply:I would ask that person to either find someone to watch their child elsewhere or to not attend your event. If the invitations specifically said an adult event then that's what it should be and there should be NO exceptions.
Reply:I'd initially "freak out" but keep it inside to avoid a scene...my house is "child-proof" too meaning, my husband and I do not have children therefore, we can decorate and furnish our home with antiques and priceless decorative items i.e. Lladro, crystal, etc. I'd politely put the kid(s) in a room upstairs with a TV and/or video or game and I would mention to the parents that "I would've appreciate it that you inform me that you are bringing your child; please do so the next time...." Unless it is a gathering that we say they can bring the kids, that's fine...and we have enough of those as well. I don't sound to be mean but there is a time and place for when it is just for adults.
Reply:Say: I am so glad you drop by even if it is only for a little while. And have fun at the movies with little Jojo.
Reply:i would still try to make the child to be good and have coloring thing for that child
Reply:Turn them away! Tell them the invitation was for adults only and you're sure they will understand why they are being asked to leave!
Reply:Well, once they show up with the child there isn't much you can do. It's best to make it clear before hand that it's adults only.
Reply:How awful! I have no idea how I would react to that. The gal that said put the child in another room with a movie sounds like the best answer.
Reply:Ask the parent if there isn't anywhere they can leave the child, as your house is not childproof and you are not sure whether the parent will supervise the child with no interruption to the adult conversations.
Reply:This has happened to us also. Our solution was to tell the child that he would be very bored at our adult party and asked if he would like to call a friend. The parents then take the child to the friends house and my problem is solved. If no friend is available I let the parents know that this party is not appropriate for little Jr. and suggest we get together another time.
Reply:Offer to call an all night sitting service, or very graciously say I am so sorry, I did send out invitations stipulating that this is an adult only affair, and the rest of my guests are looking very forward to a child free evening. Perhaps we can plan an outing at a later date to include your child, but again, sorry tonight is a well deserved child free night.
Reply:Hey enjoy the children, they are little sponges that take everything in give them a special task or some pencil and a book to colour if these friends pop in alot with their child go to go lo or a warehouse centre they have some cheap playthings you could start a little container of toys and put down a plastic cloth, give them some rules gently and smile at them, your friends might not have a babysitter and still like to socialise if you can support them your a Good friend, it might be you one day with a child, enjoy them they don't bite lol.

moon
Reply:Depending on how old the child is, put them in another room with a movie.
Reply:What does chid-proofing have to do with it? I have two kids and my house isnt chid-proofed. What kind of child did they bring an infant? or older child? And was the aprty an evening party or daytime?

Evening party-- The parent may have figured since the time was getting late they could put the baby to sleep ina back room. Or for an older child figured there would be somewhere he/she could play quietly.

Daytime party -- Perhaps they couldnt find a babysitter.

Thats all I can think of for now.
Reply:1) make it clear on the invitation that it is an event for ADULTS only

2) if they bring a kid anyway, send them home.

What are the costs associated to running a web based business, such as costs for traffic hosting and software?

I want to start my own internet business, which in order to be successful must have high levels of traffic. I have never had a website before, am I correct in thinking that traffic above a certain level must be paid for extra? How much does this cost, roughly? Also in order to create a proffessional looking website what level of expertise is required, i know there will be some but is there software which can be used to create proffessional sites, perhaps without having to learn html and css in depth?

Help much appreciated, thanks.

What are the costs associated to running a web based business, such as costs for traffic hosting and software?
You should definitely consider 1%26amp;1 web hosting. Hosting starts from £4.99 a month with free .co.uk domains included. Has free 24/7 telephone %26amp; e-mail support - will talk you step-by-step thro' any problems. (I've never had any problems or seen any downtime.) Excellent value considering all the extras included: over £400 of free software, site builders, marketing tools, etc. And they constantly win the Best Web Host award each year in many major Internet-related magazines...

Hosting packages come with a bandwidth allowance for traffic. You can start with a lower priced package while you get established, and upgrade when you need more bandwidth. If your site is quite basic with few graphics, a Home package at 1%26amp;1 would handle thousands of visitors a month %26amp; Business could cope with tens (or hundreds) of thousands. But this depends solely on the content of the site (for example: streaming / downloading video would use much more bandwidth)

1%26amp;1's free software package includes the latest version of NetObjects Fusion, which allows you to quickly create %26amp; easily manage web sites. It's extremely easy to use and you don't need to know anything about html / css to produce professional-looking sites, as NetObjects Fusion does all the coding for you. There are also a couple more Site Builders included free in the 1%26amp;1 control panel, no coding knowledge required...
Reply:It costs five pounds to seven punds a month from Namesco to host your website on your domain name..the domain registration is actually a fixed amount for two years and then there is a fixed monthly cost for having a website and using the tools to upload and edit which is the five pounds cost..

...if you build your site and upload you only need basic tools but if you want to use their tools and editors and development software than you pay more than that..

...after that you may want to register with google to promote your site and publish other people links to earn money...(google adsense and google adwords (your marketing)) for adwords you set a monthy budget and in my experience it depends on what you are selling but you may need to go upword to about 120 pounds though you can change this amount..I started with 30 and recived about 15 customers per week but the more you invest and the more you can fulfill and so on to compete the better...
Reply:i say you learn html and css. it is not that hard. css is very important you can change layout color or font for the whole with one change in your css file. if you need professional beautiful graphic then you can buy it and put it your self. save cost and a lot. just find free html builder such as coffeecup software or NVU. play around with it for while. see if you have the feel to do html. about traffic if you targeting for search engines traffic then you need to concentrate on SEO and keywords phrase. for quick traffic you can use PPC but it could cost you a fortune if you don't have the expertise and enough knowledge. check below resources for more info on online biz.
Reply:You can run a very successful business for less than $50.00

If you spend much more you are probably overdoing it.

Good Luck,

Tom

How do I scan a photo small enough for web hosting?

I want to put photos on my blog site which requires photo hosting at a smaller size than my photos are scanned into my computer. How do I do the shrink down? Thank You

How do I scan a photo small enough for web hosting?
you can scan in .jpeg format then re save as .gif format which will automatically compress the size you can use photoshop for this as internet mostly support .gif files
Reply:Better alternative (to Photoshop, photoshop means $$$) are small scale free programs like Irfanview and Picasa.
Reply:Use a photo editing program (like Photoshop) to resize the pics. The program you used to scan the images in with should have a re-seize function in it though.
Reply:ALMOST ALL PROGRAMS HAVE PROGRAMS WHICH WILL CHANGE THE TYPE OF GRAPHIC BITMAN, JPG, ECT. ONE FOR THE INTERNET, THIS WILL CHANGE THE SIZE, OR YOU CAN CHANGE PAGE SETUP OR CROP IT IF YOU WANT A CERTAIN AREA. IT HAS TO BE A CERTAIN TYPE OF GRAPHIC TYPE TO PUT IT ON THE INTERNET.
Reply:Normally scan your photo. You should then get or use some kind of image/photo editing program. (I reccomend Irfan View, which can be used to edit the sizes of images and their file types). After scanning your photo, open up your program and edit it there.

(If you do get Irfan View, open your image up %26gt; Click 'Image' %26gt; 'Resize/Resample...' and edit there.)

I hope this helps. :)

Suggestions for hosting a "singles' night out" for people between 31-45?

I am planning a dinner buffet and singles' mingle at an elegant restaurants where I live. I thought it would be better having someone like a host/MC person to kinda move things along instead of jsut letting people sit on their butt for the whole evening.

I will greatly appreciate your help, Thanks

Suggestions for hosting a "singles' night out" for people between 31-45?
Upon entering the restaurant, everyone is given a sticky tag of a famous person's name to wear on his or her back, and is not allowed to see what the name is. For an hour or so, everyone asks each other "yes" and "no" questions about what the person's name on their back is. Although the purpose is to get everyone talking to each other, you can make it into a competition, and give a prize to the person who guesses the name on his or her back first.

We played this game at a bridal shower; it was fun!
Reply:Do some ice breakers. For the appetizer, have them sit w/ the 3-4 people who's birthday's are closest to theirs. They have tomingle and talk to figure this out.

For entree, have them sit with the 3-4 people who's hometown is closest to theirs.

For dessert, have them sit with people who drive the same make vehicle as they do (Ford, Acura, Toyota, whatever).
Reply:Good day,

Nut and screws ,buy different sizes of screws and nuts and give nuts to the ladies and screws to the men ,everyone has to go around and find their match. It start conversation and good for a few laugh.

How can I solve this file hosting issue?

I need a free file hosting website that I can upload images to that won't resize them or have bandwidth limits.

Imageshack isn't working for me, and photobucket resizes large images.

Not good when you need to host a large file as a webpage background.

How can I solve this file hosting issue?
try box.net

google picasa photo album

resize the background to lesser color depth, lesser quality jpg

and smaller file size.
Reply:Most image hosting sites use JavaScript to reduce the size of an image on the screen.

You can post them to any free Web host. However, you may find that some disable hotlinking, especially to MySpace and the like.

I am hosting a birthday party for my 8 year old next weekend, what should I serve?

I want something that I can sit out, not having to worry about keeping it warm. A cold dish that adults and children can enjoy. I was thinking hot dogs, a large fruit salad and something else as an alternative to hot dogs. What else can I serve? The weather is expected to be sunny, low 90's, so I need some ideas. Any suggestions?

I am hosting a birthday party for my 8 year old next weekend, what should I serve?
potatoe salad, pasta salad, sandwiches, cheese and ham tortillas, quesadillas, chicken wings or chicken fingers
Reply:A veggie/dip platter is good too ...* and a bean salad can sit out for hours (just open %26amp; drain cans of cut green beans, kidney beans, sliced carrots, garbanzo beans %26amp; mix with some Italian dressing - marinate for a few hours) .....*.For the fruit salad: hollow out half of a watermelon, and put the cut melon %26amp; fruit back into the watermelon shell to serve it .....* Quiche is good, even if it's at room temp....
Reply:Taco in a bag! Mini bag of doritos with half the chips, taco meat, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. give them a fork and toss when done. my 7yr old loves these. also gross but kids seem to like it pickle pops, frozen pickle juice in a dixie cup with toothpick as a stem. dessert anything with chocolate!
Reply:Maybe a pasta salad, cheese (after all, who doesn't love chese), and perhapse some really good bread?

Happy birthday to your 8-year-old!
Reply:Meatballs. Chicken strips on skewers. Pork'n'beans. Chili. Mac'n'cheese. Baby carrots. Cheese cubes. Bbq chicken drummettes. Tater Tots (do those have to be eaten hot?).
Reply:i would order pizza. I wouldn't give the fruit salad to the kids cuz they mite not likeit...instead give chips or cookies?

you should also serve lemonade
Reply:spring salad..... rotini noodles mixed with antipasto (cut up meat and cheese) with italian dressing all over it ... i have it at all my kids' parties and there is never any left

We are hosting a Casino Night which is my parents 40th Anniversary Celebration, I need tips on ideas and how

to go about the money? should we play for fun or actually ask them to buy chips? how does all this work?

We are hosting a Casino Night which is my parents 40th Anniversary Celebration, I need tips on ideas and how
You might consider using a type of 'monopoly' money where each person coming in gets $20.00 or more. Tehn they use this 'cash' to buy into the games.

Then when the games are done, they can use the chips to turn in for raffle tickets for nice prizes or just let them have fun without the prizes!
Reply:usually, you have a "buy in" you should have chips of a different color which will represent different denominations. (example: blue chips 5 dollars, red chips 10 dollars, white chips 1 dollar, green chips 50 cents) this way, theres not a bunch of cash all over the place. it helps to keep things organized. another thing you might consider is doing a "chuck e cheese" type situation where you have chips which can be traded in for prizes etc. this is a good way of playing for fun. note: its ALWAYS more fun if your actually playing to win something. otherwise the games can get stale

We are hosting a Superbowl party for a non-profit organization and want to make it HUGE! Any ideas?

This event is going to be basically for charity and will be set in an arena to accomidate 100 or so people. Raffles are being offered but I would love to hear some suggestions for party ideas to make the night a huge success. We also have posted a food list for people to bring in for a pot-luck type of buffet so ideas for that would be cool too. Ideas for half-time fun/games, etc..are encouraged.

We are hosting a Superbowl party for a non-profit organization and want to make it HUGE! Any ideas?
A good way to raise $ is to have a 50/50 raffle. You get a roll of tickets and sell each ticket for, say a dollar. The more tickets people buy the better their chance of winning. You pull 1 ticket out of a hat and whoever has the ticket wins 50% of the money ans the other 50% goes to the charity. So if you sell $100 tickets, you make $50 they get 50...and if its for a non profit, hopefully the person who won will give the money back to the charity.

Theres always the donut-on-a-string contest. Get a long piece of string, and tie pieces of string hanging from it, and tie a donut to the end of each string..so basically it looks like a giant clothesline with donuts hanging from it. people have to hold their hands behind their back and eat the donut from the string..its funny to watch!
Reply:you could get donations from stores and other places for a silent auction, those are fun and all the money will go to the charity.

have a football toss contest- don't they have those mats you throw at to see the speed of your throw?

give evryone a football cutout of paper on a pin, if you're caught saying "football" someone can steal away the pin- person with the most at the end of the game wins a prize

some kind of relay games
Reply:If I were doing a potluck for a Superbowl party, I'd make it a chili cookoff. It adds an element of competition, and an activity in the form of tasting and judging. A pig roast would also work as a main.

As to fun activites, an armchair race could make for good pictures if you have the right crowd and enough room. Put armchairs on wheels and have teams race their chair to the tv.

What video hosting sites allow streaming playback in their native resolution, versus Youtube's cruddy quality?

Well, like the question asks, what are some video hosting sites which offer streaming playback (like YouTube), in their native resolutions (unlike YouTube)?

You Tube has started to grow the wrong way on me. At first it was this "oh so great" video site. Now, I notice video after video at cruddy quality levels, making most of them even a waste of time to watch. For this reason, it would be apparent that a "better" hosting site will prevail through this Youtube age we are at.

Let's hear what you feel is the "best" currently. Remember, they must offer video streaming, not just a file hosting site.

Good luck!
Reply:Begin with setting up your own webpage as your current internet provider will provide free hosting as discussed below.

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool which is totally free. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.

Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in the "domain name," you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.

When you acquire a domain name, connect it using a redirection service [as discussed above] and submit/publish the domain name on major search engines/directories in order for Net surfers to find your website.

Good luck!
Reply:There is, but be careful with free hosting. Hosting is so cheap in the scheme of things. We have used 1%26amp;1 for many years and have had no problems so far. I am sure there are other good ones.

Planning and hosting a golf tournament?

To fellow golfers out there, can you give me some pointers and procedures on planning and hosting a golf tournament? This is for fund raising and on a small to medium scale kind of tournament. I just want to know how to get everything in place for the tournament.

Planning and hosting a golf tournament?
Go to ryder golf, they'll give you a free website and helpful ideas.
Reply:well the first thing I would advise you is to get help and spread out the workload I just did an outing for only 16 people and couldn't believe how many issues came up either with the golf course or getting payment from the players but it all came out good in the end and everyone had a great time
Reply:to make the tournament fun and more interesting add closest to the pin competions and longest drive and longest putt, etc. on planning it first call the course you want to play at and ask for a block of tee times for the approximate number of players you will have. for the banquet there are two options. have it catrered and make people pay or have everyone bring a dish. i think catering would be much easier. most courses will let you use there banquet room.

good lcuk and have fun.

What is the best machine for web hosting?

I would also like to know about the types of hardware such as which processors and RAM suit the role. If anyone can tell me any information about this or provide any links I would be grateful, thanks in advance.

What is the best machine for web hosting?
The best machine for running a web server is either Linux or OpenBSD running Apache web server with a MySQL database and PHP scripting language to access MySQL (Often called a LAMP server).

Currently 75% of all (true) web servers run Apache on Linux or BSD.

As for what type of hardware you need, like Andrew said, that would depend on how busy you think the server will be. As with all things computer, the better the machine the better the application will run. I would suggest at least a Pentium 4 grade machine with 80 Gig hard drive, and 1 gig of RAM...
Reply:Simple answer, depends.

How many concurrent connections do believe you'll have?

What are the minimal recommendations that your web server software provider suggests? (i.e. have a look at the apache documentation if you are using apache).

What other software are you going to need to run on the same server?

Is the application that you are serving high load?

etc.

Lots of questions that need to be answered before a recommendation I'm afraid.

You should also consider something like Xen or VMWare which allows you to run multiple OS sessions at the same time and can be swapped between machines very easily.

Hope this gives some pointers.

How can the time of a computer hosting a web site be determined?

Need to know how to synchronize the time on my PC to the time on a web site . The reason behind this question is that it involves making an online reservation starting on a specific day, at a specific time. For this particular reservation system, the demand is so high that if you are seconds past the opening time when attempting to purchase you will not be successful in obtaining the reservations.

How do I know when is the hosting expiry without going through my service provider?

Is there a generic open project website which enables me to check the above status without going through my service provider?

Some good hosting service provider give you a control panel, which is sometimes enabled with billing details. So you can try checking in that.

If its not in that, then the only way is to contact them.

When hosting a poker game, do you allow players to cash out whenever they want?

Or must the game continue until one player ends up with all the chips, and then pay out based upon order of finish?

I realize that you must follow the house rules or don't bother buying in, but I hadn't heard of this before last weekend.

When hosting a poker game, do you allow players to cash out whenever they want?
If I were hosting a poker game, I wouldn't feel comfortable telling my guests when they can cash out. I wouldn't feel comfortable at such a game, on the flipside.

On another note, if I were hosting a cash game and a player was known for cashing out immediately after winning a big hand or two, I probably would not invite them back.
Reply:you can do it either way as long as everyone knows up front if you are playing a cash game or a tournament you can also play a tournament with a time limit so the person with the most chips at the time the game ends wins first place and then pay out the next spot with whoever has the second most chips ETC.
Reply:The players can cash out anytime they want.
Reply:If it's a cash game they can come and go as they please. As the host, I'd make sure that nobody else handled the money though, since at the end of the night if it's short, you're the one losing money. If you let everyone get their own money people might make honest mistakes, or they might intentionally take an extra $20 or $30. If it's a tournament they can leave, but their chips stay at the table, they lose their buy-in, and the chips are blinded off as the button moves around the table.
Reply:If you are playing a cash game where you buy in for $100 and you get $100 worth of chips, then the person can cash out at any time and head home.

If you are playing a tournament-style where your $100 will start you out with $10,000 worth of tournament chips, then the person has to stay until he is knocked out of the tourney.
Reply:There is a difference between a tournament and a cash game. In a cash game, you are allowed to cash out at any time. In a tournament, you play until the end and pay out then.
Reply:In order to keep the game friendly, my friends and I always said a player would have to call I am playing for 1 more hour and at the end of that hour they could extend. Because they knew this when entering we all followed it. This way a person can't win a big pot and then walk off. The people that didn't honor the "Hour Rule" weren't invited back. It worked very well.

What is a good moderately priced web hosting site to put up a web page that will have a ton of media?

I am planning on setting up a site that will have a lot of graphics and media. I plan on having a lot of traffic as well.

What is a good moderately priced web hosting site to put up a web page that will have a ton of media?
I suggest you look into renting a dedicated server then. Most hosting companies offer shared hosting where more than one customers website is hosted on a single server. Thats how they provide those bargain basement prices. You will pay more to be the only user of a server but you'll gain complete control and will be able to put whatever streaming audio/video you need. For my own needs I choose any of the hosting companies on my online store, http://tbrandon.ld.net. Others that I have heard good things about are :

Dreamhost

Hosting.com

Verio/Web.com

Godaddy

Network Solutions

Register.com

Whichever one you choose, try to speak with someone who has actually used the service and get their take on it. You can also search web hosting review on google to get some great info.

How can I get access to my website files if I can't get a hold of the designer or hosting company!?

I had my site designed by a company 1 year ago and they've been hosting my site for free, but for the last month I can't get a hold of them. I don't know if they went out of business or what. My website is still up and running though. I want to transfer it to another hosting company but I don't have the files for the site!

How can I get access to my website files if I can't get a hold of the designer or hosting company!?
Sorry but I don't think anyone here can answer that question. If you really want to find an answer for your question which I assume you do I will recommend www.google.com only problem is that it might take a bit of searching.

Also try www.youtube.com because chances are there is a video that will answer your question

What's the average cost for a city hosting the olympics?

How much would it cost for a city to host the olympics on average?

What's the average cost for a city hosting the olympics?
According to Patrick Ewe, citymayors.com project coordinator, it costs each city between $15 and 20m for the bidding process alone. This is BEFORE even any city has been picked.

Ewe states that the cost of playing host to the 2012 olympics (London) is estimated at more than US$3 billion.

Sydney, in hosting the 2000 Olympics, spent approx $3.4 billion and Athens totalled at more than 9 billion euro.

Basically as the cost of living increases, there too does the cost of having the Olympics.

It would seem that many cities financially loose out on the Olympics, at least in recent times. Sydney 2000 itself though went overbudget did make up for some losses in the early part of 2001 before the combined problems of the 9/11 attacks in the US and the highly contradictory collapse of one of its main airlines. Athens is yet unknown, but I wouldn't be suprised if they made a large loss, however tourism may of counteracted this to some extent.

Many cities that host the winter olympics enjoy a huge jump in worldwide attention and thus tourism trade and therefore would make it somewhat worth it.

I hope this helps and i think it will work cause it doesnt sound rude or anything.
Reply:Im sorry, I cant think of how to attmpt to do something that class-less. If youre going to host, then host, you cant Invite then not expect to foot the bill. I can agree with the person that says you can turn it into a pot-luck kind of thing, but thats as far as I'd go. Sorry if a lil forward. Maybe you should just plan on 'finger food' or something within budget.
Reply:Tacky, that is a no-no.
Reply:yeah you tell em matey!! its all about the wording on the invite not opinions on whether you should pay!! I suggest you put the amount on the invite, subtle, it doesn't have to sound like you are a tight *** coz surely people dont think like that, not people that are your friends!
Reply:I might write something like, "Dinner available, but not included." Something like that.
Reply:If it is in a restaurant, tell them it is Dutch Treat. If it is in someone's home - make it potluck or you can say "we are all chipping in for pizza", etc.
Reply:Include a copy of the menu with the invite
Reply:If you don't want to pay for every one.cut the number of people coming to the number that you can afford.or make some thing that will meal that will serve a large number of people. It' tacky to ask guess to pay.
Reply:Can't think of the correct wording, but how about something similar to that put on wedding invitations, where close members of family etc., are invited to the main meal but others are invited to a reception later in the evening. Or, contact the people you are considering inviting prior to occasion and inform them of the circumstances. If they are that close to you, I shouldn't think they would mind paying. If they don't want to, don't invite the tight b*******s! The cost of their meal would probably be less than you would spend on a decent prezzie anyway, so put it to them that you would rather have their company than a gift! And if they still decline, so what; what can you get for a tenner with regards to a gift these days anyway. On my 21st I had a party, but couldn't afford for it to be a complete freebie, so I had a word with the Landlord of the pub, and he was brilliant. I put £X behind the bar, and all the drinks were half-price until the money ran out, then they were full price. (I will add that I offered to pay for the buffet/disco, but as I did work there the Landlady done that as a gift, and their son done the disco for the same reason). No-one minded at all; in fact they would have been more than willing to pay the full price anyway. It isn't uncommon these days for parties to be held in venues that have bars/buffets etc., but the guests pay for their own food/drinks etc., It's just nice for family and friends to get together and have a good time. My 21st was brilliant, hope your party is good too.

Christine O
Reply:That's kinda hard inviting people to a restaurant because there is always those stinkin people who complains about money!!!! But if its a private banquet type of party, pick and choose appetizer, lunch/dinner %26amp; dessert and know how much it will cost to ask people how much contribution they will be making. Since you are the host, you might want to buy their drinks. So word it like,"If you would like to partake in this special celebration, a contribution of $amount will be appreciated. Drinks is on me."
Reply:I wouldn't invite guests and then expect them to foot their own bill. If finances are tight, do something more low key: potluck dinner or a theme night (everybody bring something chocolate, for example).
Reply:I wouldn't offer a dinner unless you're prepared to foot the bill.

If you're hosting and doing the invites, it's kinda on you to cover the costs.

Good luck!!

What are the legal loopholes in hosting swinger parties?

What can we do to not get in trouble with the law? This question is not intended for opinions on the moral value of swinging.

What are the legal loopholes in hosting swinger parties?
Here is where the parties ususally get tripped-up legally:

1) Having too many parties at their house and annoying the neighbors who call the police all the time. The party isn't illegal since what you do in your own home is your business (as long as you are not running it as a business), but your neighbors could make having parties a bother.

2) Charging or asking for donations can cause issues because you now become a business and you must be zoned and have a business license.

3) If you do run it as an adult oriented business, make sure you do it in a part of town and a property that is zoned for adult oriented busiensses and that you keep current on all your utilities and fire insepections, etc. Many a club has been shut down for non-payment of water or sewer bills or fire code violations.

The safest it to host a party once or twice a month at your house and invite just a small group of friends so that from the outside it looks to the neighbors like just a bunch of friends gathering for a dinner party. Make it BYOB to save money.
Reply:Make the cops on your side. Seriously. It's not so much about the legality, it's about how much hassle they can give you.

Also, keep the ATF sweet, if you're in the USA. Make it bring your own booze.

There might be problems with home and business legalities. Ypu will need a very good lawyer. You should be able to get one at a club.

Members only, 21+, no sold drink, and to make it a success, severely limit single male membership, no matter how bad the books are to start with.

Good luck though, and give me a mail when it's running!
Reply:If it's illegal in your State, you can't actually get around it.

It is what it is.

You may try selling memberships for $2.00 dollars and have them

fill out a simple form. Just in case they visit you. Then you will

have proof that you are a private club, where there are members

only. And you can do members right on the spot.

Heidi Fleiss told me that all she had were parties and she charged $50,000, but it was with the intentions of having s8x.

This is illegal. Now if she had created a Club and pay her taxes. The government always want their taxes. You may be alright.

Get a LLC to perfect it. You can do it yourself from the book store.
Reply:Well if no money is exchanged then technically it is just a private party.
Reply:no money changes hands and you keep it on your property and inside, then it's not illegal.
Reply:as long as there is no exchange of money i don't see how it's illegal. maybe check the local sodomy laws :P

Best way on starting a web hosting business and make it grow?

Have currently started with a reseller.

Also, do you know any good and cheap billing systems?

Also, if you know any good sites for getting customers for my site, please let me know.

Best way on starting a web hosting business and make it grow?
The cost of acquiring customers would certainly be higher than whatever profit you could expect from your hosting business, for a new or small player.

You will need to find a niche and specialize there instead of going to the general market where you face mamooths who can afford spending millions for advertisement and have an established customer base.

Hope it helps,

What's the difference between web hosting and a dedicated server?

With many web hosting packages, your web content is served up (to the 'net) on a server that is actually shared with other people who also have web content. There are normally restrictions on what type of programs can be run to support your site (from a list of their supported programs). For example, they may include support for mySQL but not Oracle. You may sometimes find that response time for your site is slowed down because other sites share the same physical server.

If you have a dedicated server, it's, well, dedicated. You can at many places supply your own server, but at others you have to pick from what they offer. But you typically have more freedom about what programs you can run to support your web services. It's also more expensive.

What's the difference between web hosting and a dedicated server?
A dedicated server is actually one option for hosting.

You can host in a SHARED environment, which puts your site on a server with many other sites.

Or you can host in a DEDICATED environment, where you're on your own server.

In either case, you're likely paying for space at a hosting facility.

Shared is cheaper, but can hurt performance.

Dedicated is more expensive, but gives you more control over what software you use, and may help if you have a very busy site.
Reply:Normal web hosting is usually shared hosting. Dedicated server is the hosting space which will be allocated only to you and you will not be sharing with others.

If you start websites, you can use shared hosting and if your site grows lot, then consider dedicated hosting.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

What are some etiquette tips when hosting your first housewarming party?

The bf %26amp; I are just about to finalize our first house purchase and some of my colleagues and friends have already started asking us when the house warming is.

a few questions:

1) Is it customary for guests to bring gifts?

2) If so, what kind of gifts are we expected to receive?

3) if they ask us what we would like as a gift, how much should they be expected to spend?

4) if they ask us what do we need, how big of an item can we ask for? or can we just ask for money/gift cards so we can buy what we need?

5) How much alcohol should we have on hand, especially when it comes to colleagues (including the boss)

Thanks

What are some etiquette tips when hosting your first housewarming party?
1) yes

2) Stuff you need for the house. You can do a registry

3) Whatever is in there budget.

4) Give list out so they can pick and choose by their self.

5) A lot if they drink like my folks, you might want to load up on the alcohol :)

Hope this helps
Reply:Traditionally, housewarming gifts are symbolic items, usually bread and salt, not actual things for the house. If your guests don't realize that, and ask you what you want, just tell them not to bring anything.

If you serve alcohol, obviously allow enough for at least one drink per guest. It's completely up to you if you want to risk more than that.

2]Small, modest,household gifts, hostess gifts.

Name items that have a big price range, like wine glasses. They could come from the dollar store, Wal-mart, or Macy's. the choice of the giver.

3]If they ask what you want, you can say. But, keep the price down with friends and co-workers. And it depends on the kind of party you are having, having a as cheap as you can get by party, aim low. Spending some bucks, aim higher.

4[Yes, gift cards are the answer, name several stores from which you would like a card, for the giver's preferance and convenience. They can then choose the amount. If you like books, say bookstore. Kitchen gagets from the cooking store, or pick a low and a high end department store.

5]I'd have a full bar available for the party, shortcuts are to only serve wine, or have a signature cocktail, or theme cocktail

It's a housewarming gift. The gift is supposed to be something that warms the house, make it seem warm and cozy to guests, and the occupants. The traditional gift for a housewarming is bread, salt, wine, and a candle.[see the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" for details.} Also popular are homemade recipe files, small gifts of jams, jellies, things for the pantry.

Things to say would be small appliances. They can choose an $9 rice cooker from Wal-greens, or a big multispeed blender. Whatever you want to give us is the polite thing to say.
Reply:People often bring gifts- sometimes something simple like a candle or plant, if it's a coworker, or something more pricey and personal if it's a good friend or family member. If they ask, and it's a more casual friend, I'd personally just tell them that their company is the only thing that's necesary, since you can't know their budget. They'll likely still bring you something.

If a good friend or relative asks, be honest- what do you need? You know pretty much what they buy for b'days, etc to get a sense of how they'll want to spend. I can't say how much booze to have, but I'd suggest a variety- soft drinks too, since some people are diabetic or on meds and should avoid alcohol or sugary soda.
Reply:Though most people bring a housewarming gift, it is not required. This isn't a wedding shower. In all of our new homes, I have never had anyone ask what we would like. It just isn't done and it certainly would be in poor taste to tell someone what you want from them. If a gift is offered it is usually something small like monogram bath soaps, coffees, wine baskets, kitchen towels and such. No one is about to bring in some kitchen appliance for you. For drinks, it's usually two small glasses per person.

Can my web hosting provider view my files even though they are Htaccess protected ?

I was wondering if my web hosting provider (employee) can view (read) files in my account that are Htaccess protected. I am hosting various websites under Linux. It is a concern for me regarding sensitive documents. I know an alternative is to encrypt them. But was curious about unencrypted material. Can a Linux super user (administrator) read other users' files ?

Thank you.

Can my web hosting provider view my files even though they are Htaccess protected ?
ANY system administrator can read ANY document on one of their machines. Encrypting is not a good answer for web access, in fact truly sensitive documents should never be publicly visible to the web. Better is to store sensitive material in a database and use dynamic web page generation to view it. This can be controlled by the inbuilt database security (set your own root password and a password for yourself as an administrator on mysql and even su can't read it).
Reply:Don't just be afraid of employees of your web host, it's also completly possible for apache to have an error and accidentally serve up your 'sensitive documents'. If you absolutely must not have anyone unauthorized read your documents, you should not put them online, or email them, and definitely shouldn't put them on a machine you cannot control (namely your webhost's).

What is the best free hosting service to display a personal family site that also supports ftp transfer?
I use http://www.aqsite.info.

They offer amazing free hosting which in my opinion is better than some paid services I have seen in the past. You have free access to all the options you would ever want (MySQL, PHP, Perl, FTP, postgresql, custom error pages, the list goes on and on). You do need a domain name though so make sure you have one. Send them an email and ask for the free plan, its worth it.

Good luck!
Reply:Yes freewebs.com is generally good for up-time and usability. It doesn't offer FTP support for free sites, butit does for premium members. Not many major sites will offer FTP to free users, but I know t35.com does (I use it since it has a free PHP client) and it supports FTP.
Reply:You more than likely have 20 to 100mb of Personal Webspace with your ISP. I have 25 MB with Cox Cable and I use the FireFTP addon with FireFox to up load my pages.
Reply:I've been with Freehostia.com for a while now without complaint. I believe you can have up to 5 subdomain names and you can upload files via FTP or the web.

Freewebs.com is another good one.

For the "community" based site, I'd also recommend Zoomshare.com. It has some good features, including a photo gallery, chat room option, and WYSIWYG editor.

The first two are ad-free, but Zoomshare has a banner ad at the top of the page (it's not that bad actually).

Cut out the 1%26amp;1 out of the picture and use ebay. You will learn Pay Pal there and get a little experience. Then if you want to do the 1%26amp;1 that would be fine but you might want to be more in control of your own site and business in which case I'd go with Yahoo Sitebuilder as any novice can build your own website with their software. I have been using Easy CGI for over 8 years now, I have 3 shared hosting accounts with them. The price is 7.96 a month which is real cheap (others advertise lower prices like 3 or 4$ a month, but they are nowhere near as reliable as EasyCGI).

The package offers everything you could ever need:

(From their website)

- Microsoft Frontpage Extentions

- Free domain name

- Unlimited FTP Accounts

- Unlimited subdomains (subdomain.yourdomain.com)

- 1000 GB/month data transfer

- 100 GB Disk Space

- CPanel with tons of good scripts and applications

- 500 POP3/Webmail Email addresses

- 50 MySQL/MS Access/MS SQL Databases

- Free Domain Stats

- Free Domain Privacy

- ASP/PHP/Perl/CGI-bin/Frontpage

- Unlimited Cron

- 99.999% uptime guarantee

And they do offer so much more. Their service and support is also spotless, they respond to email requests within minutes.
Reply:You may download dreamweaver trial version for 30 days and try developing websites.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

Visit the site to check details.

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

What is a good internet hosting company that supports PayPal and a small business?

I might start a site to sell some of my artwork and I need some suggestions.

What is a good internet hosting company that supports PayPal and a small business?
The best of the best in my opinion will be found at http://www.customized-by-you.com

It isn't free, yet they under promise and over achieve. They have a step by step system in place that will help you to design a site that will get traffic. I hope this helps.

BEST WISHES!
Reply:Most of the hosting companies have their own shopping cart.

But to use Paypal, then you can directly go to paypal and create the cart buttons. That way you can use it with any site.

Since you are going to start a store, I wont suggest getting a host with a lot of bandwidth. But if you know FrontPage then make sure that the hosting site supports FP extensions. Most of the site that uses Windows Server will have FP extension.

Linux Server Hosting are more cheaper, but you may not be able to use FrontPage to edit them, but all the hosting site have a webpage designer that will help.

Check http://www.dreamofone.com/webhosting.htm for a lot of options.

What is the difference between a domain name and web hosting?

I want to get my own website up and running, so I went to look at prices around the place... I found a good site which has domain names at $11/year, but I'm confusing myself because I'm not sure of the difference between a domain name and web hosting - I want quite a lot of space, and I will use Frontpage to make my site because that also has an upload facility attached, so I just need the domain name right?

However, I cant see anything about how much space I get when I buy a domain name, so this makes me think I need to get web hosting.... please help!!

Thanks :)

What is the difference between a domain name and web hosting?
Go to "https://www.godaddy.com" you can get both for $8.95 a year and lower. Depending on what you want and need. They support Frontpage.

A domain name works like an address forwarding service.

All of your Web site content sits on a computer with a unique address. This is called an IP address. An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, such as 123.23.234.45. Your domain name directs visitors to your site using this IP address.

We use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.

In order to choose the right hosting plan, you’ll need to consider a few things:

Design

How was your Web site designed? For example, if you designed an ASP or ASP.NET Web site, you'll need to find a Windows hosting plan. If you have a Web site that uses CGI or PHP, you'll need to get a Linux hosting plan.

Traffic

How much traffic or how many visitors do you expect monthly? The more visitors or traffic you expect on your site, the higher the bandwidth you will need.

Size

How large is your site? If you're planning on having a large site with a lot of multimedia content, you'll probably need additional disk space.

Hope this helps.
Reply:A domain name converts an IP address to a human readable format. An IP address is an address all the computers on the internet have so they can transfer information. You can find your own at www.ipchicken.com. (Whose IP address happens to be harder to remember: 209.68.27.16.) A web host is a computer somewhere in the world that runs all day and night and runs a website for you. So a domain name is a name to access a website. a webhost is the actual computer that keeps the website running.
Reply:Go to http://www.LocoDomains.com get a domain for $6.95 and add hosting which you need, web hosting is server space to upload your files.
Reply:A domain name is the www.yoursitename.com and web hosting is the comany that will host that domain name and give you space to put your website up onto the World Wide Web and allow people to access and view your website.

Reply:How to List a Domain Name

There are two principal steps to make your website on the internet and registering/booking a domain name is the number one.

A domain name builds the address of your site and can end in . com, . net, . org, . info, . us, . biz, . tv and further.

Directly afer you have registered your name, you will pick a web host (2nd step). The web host is the guts of any website as this is where you build and publish your pages, build purchase fillings, insert service and preserve your site.

Reply:When you buy a domain name, it is just reserving the name so noone else can use it. For example, if you decided to buy widgitdesigns.com, then noone else can. But theres no way to put files on it.

Web Hosting, is a company who will let you use their computers to store all of your files for your domain name.

Lets say NetworkSolutions is hosting your website. When you type widgitdesigns.com it will know to access networksolutions, and look for index.html and the rest of your files.

How do web hosting services Mid-Phase and Pro-Phase compare to the web hosters?

Has anybody experienced with web hosting services Mid-Phase and Pro-Phase? How has it been doing for you? What are their features? Any pros and cons? Anything that separates them from the other web hosting services whether good or bad? Thanks!

How do web hosting services Mid-Phase and Pro-Phase compare to the web hosters?
If you are considering MidPhase I recommend you use AnHosting which is a MidPhase company. They have more features, double the space and a lower price. Review and Coupon for 3 months off too: http://www.castironhostingreview.com/anh... However if you are set on midphase you'll be happy with their service I just figured I'd like you know about anhosting since they are the same company with more for less.

What's the difference between hosting with unlimited domains and reselling hosting?

I have a need to host a half dozen domains, four of which are for clients. I figure I can make a couple of bucks here. Godaddy.com has a deal for $6.99 a month with unlimited domains, but I don't think this would be a reseller arrangement. What is the difference between this and a reseller account? Couldn't I host my client's domains on this account and charge them? Confused...

What's the difference between hosting with unlimited domains and reselling hosting?
If you host your clients sites on your account, they will not have access to those accounts without going into your file structure. Even though they can be limited to their own files, you will have to add them as add-on domains, which add folders under yours.

Reseller accounts allow you to create totally separate accounts for your clients, with their own file space and logins. If they break any of the hosting rules, only their site will be shut down, instead of yours and all those added onto your account.

Does anyone have ideas on hosting a card making event in a scrapbooking store?

As an associate of a scrapbook store that has recently relocated I was asked to come up with some ideas to get people to come in. We have offered discounts ect. Nothing really has worked. I love making cards and was hoping to set up something to bring people in- I have never done it before and would love some ideas.

Does anyone have ideas on hosting a card making event in a scrapbooking store?
Try a make %26amp; take for cards...have basic supplies included in the base price (keep it cheap), then offer "add ons" at sale prices to entice people who haven't made cards before to take up the hobby.

Our local scrapbook store periodically has a Friday or Saturday night "party"...they have munchies available, keep it lighthearted and fun, everyone's welcome to bring their own supplies (but there's always that "one thing that'll make it perfect" that needs to be purchased at the last minute at regular store price). My favorite "parties" there were the late night ones that ran from 8-midnight or later. It was a nice, relaxing time away from the kids and "real life".
Reply:Have a class time.

prepare a kit with same products, cs, patterned paper.

BUt give them the choice of 2 or 3 sets of stamps. They may want to make birthday, thinking of you or ??? cards.

Have samples of the card on display.

Always have chocolate and drinks on hand.
Reply:The other suggestions are good. What I would like to add is having a theme. With the holidays coming up you may want to do a Halloween Card class, or Fall/Thanksgiving Cards, or even Christmas. With us crafters, it's really not too soon to start on Christmas. Make it fun for the participants and keep it simple.

How can I start my own real website with a domain name, when I don't know anything about web hosting?

Can anyone give me a little know-how about starting up a website? Perhaps some step-by-step about how to go from knowing nothing about this, to running a website? I think alot of people would benefit from this information besides just myself. I need to know some of the steps that I need to take to register a domain name, and how to host it. Some of the terms I've heard associated with this were MySQL and cPanel (I think). Does anyone know what these terms mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot!

How can I start my own real website with a domain name, when I don't know anything about web hosting?
Step 1:

Register your domain name. You can register a domain name at yahoo or at godaddy.com.

Step 2:

Get web hosting. YOu can get web hosting thru Yahoo or Godaddy, or a gazillion other web hosting companies on line. You will likely only need a teeny bit of disk space for your site, but you may want to make sure you have at least 500mb of space so that you have enough room to have email accounts associated with your website/domain. Get a UNIX/RedHat/Linux/Apache type account. You don't need to pay for "windows" hosting. You should pay between $7 and $20 per month for hosting.... less, and you don't know what kind of customer service you are going to get, more, and you are paying too much.

Step 3:

Go to the place where you registered your domain name and make sure your DNS is pointing to the place where you are hosting your website.

more explanation: if you register mycompany.com and your host is hostingcompany.com, you need to make sure your domain name is pointing to hosting company. your dns may look like this:

ns1.hostingcompany.com

ns2.hostingcompany.com

Often times your webhost will do the DNS transfer for you. You will need to tell them your regristrar account's username and password. That's their job. It's ok to give it to them. You might want to change it afterwards though.

Side note: I recommend registering your own domain. Don't have your hosting company register it for you, as you want to own your domain name and have it registered in your own name.

Step 4:

The next step, of course, is to create your website and then load it onto your server. You should learn XHTML and CSS to do a good job here. You only need a text editor such as notepad or textpad to create your site and the filemanager portion of your control panel (see below) to upload your files, but you can also go all out and get Dreamweaver, or other WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor. I recommend Thomsons book "New Perspectives on HTML, XHTML, and Dynamic HTML, Comprehensive"

Terms:

MySQL:

MySQL is a type of database. If this is your first website and you asked the question you did, you likely will never need to use it. However, it is good to get a hosting package that allows for at least one MySQL database. You will only ever need one database, as you can have almost unlimited tables in this one database.

cPanel:

cPanel is a control panel for webhosting. It's a type of control panel... brand name. It is a really great control panel. WHat is a control panel? A control panel is a GUI by which you can control your website. It includes file manager, where you can upload pages to your website (uploading means putting files from your computer onto your website that is hosted by your hosting company you picked in step 2), control of .htaccess, which allows you to set up password protected directories, email, which allows you to set a default account for your site as well as create email mail boxes and email forwards.

Reply:I have mine with Yahoo. I love the ease of use.
Reply:If you are a true novice and don't want to spend much time learning how to make a site, I would suggest the current super-popular MySpace. You can quickly get your information up for all your friends to see.

If you are interested in something more, but still fairly simple try GeoCities or Yahoo.

If you are willing to learn HTML I would suggest ATSPACE.COM. You can create a website for FREE up to 50MBs in size. I have two websites through them and the uptime is great. You'll need an ftp program to upload your stuff. There's a good free one for personal use called "FTP Explorer". Of course you'll either need to learn HTML or use one of the WYSIWYG programs like FrontPage or DreamWeaver to actually design your site. e-mail me if you need some help...

If you want your own domain and have it hosted, I suggest ReadyHosting. You get 1GB of space unlimted e-mail accounts, FTP access and domain name registration all for $99 a year.

I have already given two answers related to this topic. Please go to the link

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

And see the answer given for "how do i get my web page viewed by more people?"

And the other answer at this link : http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

This is an answer to the question: "how do i build my own web page?"

I think this will answer the first part of your question.

The software widely used for developing simple websites are :

html (xtml which is advanced one)

on most occassions, apart from a simple website, people may require complex functionalities for their websites. Some times some programming may be required at this point, Java Script, php and other programming software come to picture.

Some times you may need some animation to be added, Flash comes to picture here (some develop website only in flas, but it is not recommended. Search engines do not recognise images and javascript much)

Some times you may need to collect the address and details of the visitors of the website (say yours is a hotel booking website.) Then you need to store these data in a database. There are several databases but MySQL is a freeware. And for small and medium business this is very useful and popular. (MS-Sql, Oracle etc are costly)

As you can see now, MySql is not used develop the website, but to store the info in the background.

---

Cpanel is nothing but Control Panel. Where you get several icons/options for different tasks.

After you develop a website, you need to store this in some server. So you go to the cpanel and click on the file manager and upload yoru files, Later you edit your existing page details here. (All the stuffs related to files are handled here.)

http://www.ihostdata.com is a very good hosting solution for beginners and this has uploading simplified. (it is like you attach a file to your email). But some other hosting solutions may be a little complicated. They may not be very userfriendly.

To simplify matters.

html is like Ms-Paint, and Notepad. (this helps you to create a new file.

MySQL is like your old DBASE, ACCESS, FoxPro etc (where you store your data)

Cpanel is like your Control Panel(to some extend windows explorer) where it allows to organize different activities.

Please understand the above examples are given keeping in mind to simplify the answer, so that any novice can get some idea.

All my answers should be verified for accuracy, the answers are only my suggestions.
