Why do people take kids from around the world and let them live with them as a part of a family, what is the reason?
What is the benefit in hosting an exchange student?
What is the benefit? It is an excellent thing to do! You get to broaden your mind, meaning you get to learn about another country. Some people never get out of the area to which they were born and raised. This is so sad. People should learn about different cultures in different countries. Not just from reading in a book, from making friends with others and getting first hand education from another human being. Hosting an exchange student not only benefits the exchange student, it benefits the whole community! Sometimes, people become friends and remain friends for the rest of there lives.
Reply:It offers both the student and the host family to learn about each others cultures. It might be for a full school year, or a semester or for a few weeks during summer holidays.
If you ever have an opportunity to do an exchange, go for it!!
Reply:if it was a trade a kid scenario that would make sense
Reply:Because of all the great things you learn from that student!!!
I always wanted to have one, but family has always held me back, can´t even talk my husband into it.
You develop a relationship with that student, they become part of your family. You are sharing your home with them, they share their culture with you.
If things work out the way they are intended to, they become so much a part of your family, that you eventually turn it into a true ·"exchange", in that the child(ren) from the host family go and live with their family (in the other country). I know several families wherein the relationship has lasted YEARS, and the two families actually become like family. One friend of mine, in her late fifties, went to the weddings of the children of her
Mexican "sister" from High School. The benefits are endless.
And, just so you know, there are a few financial offsets, like a tax deduction, to help afford the situation.
Reply:It breaks the monotony of life, and can be amusing.
Reply:Heii! Im an exchange student from Switzerland, and Im in California now. If you host someone you give this student an opportunity of an experience for a lifetime. You will also get something back. You have the chance to learn something about a different world, about the culter, language and customs of the exchange student. Both parties can learn from each other and it's just a great experience. While I'm here, my natural family host a girl from thailand. It's just really interesting to learn something about her life. My hostfamily here is great, I'm just so glad that I found one. They show me her culture, costums. In exchange I try to help them as much as I can. Sometimes I cook, or clean, and try to learn them somethin about Switzerland...!!
