My friend's son moved into his own apartment . Someone suggested that the mother host her son's house warming party, I suggested someone other than his mother. What are the rules or are there really no rules?
What is the etiquette rules for hosting house warming party?
It should be hosted by him, the house owner and no other persons.
Reply:Make it a casual welcoming party for him into his new HOME. Just invite the people around him. He should probably set this up however. Because his mother doesn't live with him.
Reply:I agree, this is more of a "first apartment" party, not a house-warming. We had one of these also, years ago with our first apartment. We invited everyone over to see our new place, and they brought gifts. It was really helpful, since we were dirt poor! Completely understand.....but since this is not a housewarming....there are no rules. If it were, then the host is generally the new homeowner, not the mother/parents.
These days, any parent is so excited %26amp; proud that their child has enough drive, maturity %26amp; responsibility to actually move out of the house, we all want to throw them a party!
Reply:Well the real etiquette rules are not to have a house warming party since he didn't buy a house.
However, I understand it is hard to move out and buy everything. Why doesn't the son have just a party at his new apt. and invite everyone. Most people will probably just bring a gift.
To name it house warming is inappropriate.
