What is the best time to start a party I'm that I'm hosting?

A dinner party should start at 7 p.m. If it's a BBQ or some type of birthday party, it should definitely be earlier. Like 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.

But a dinner party that you're cooking a formal meal for should be done in the evening.

it depends on what kind of party and what your preparing. Is this classic dining with many courses? if so start around 5 for snacks and drinks, around 6 you'll sit for your first course, second third, you get the piture, if it's less formal it depends on if your providing just snacks, buffet style, or a full dinner. snack start around 8, you would have expected people to have had dinner, and your just providing some snacks and beverages. this would be like a reception. If it's a buffet style i would say around 6:30-7, sit down dinner at 5. You need to think about how long you expect your guest to stay also.
Reply:It should somewhere around 6 pm.
