Starting a small social, sharing videos site. I have no idea how much storage space and servers i would need at the beginning. My goal is to not have the site crash, however i don't have enough money to get hosting were the big boys are , youtube, yahoo etc. So what options do i have?

Host yourself, silly.
First, get yourself an IBM server, a DNS Server, a TLD or a set of subdomains on several domain names, then you get Gigabit internet, it costs alot.
That's why your supposed to have a business first and then use those kinds of websites and web applications to promote your business, lets take Virgin Media and Virgin in the UK (where I am) for example: http://www.virginmedia.com/
I know it is cool to own a website, but you need to work yourself up first.

cheapest option. What if your website is not available 10% of the time ? Rather
try a good web hosting provider like http://aplis.net/
Else you can use free webhosting provider like awardspace
