Also, feel free to suggest your favorite baked potato toppings. I think I've got most of the bases covered, but am always open to suggestions.
We're hosting a dinner and doing a potato bar. How many baked potatoes should I cook for 6 adults and 3 kids?
Are you having anything else besides potatoes? If not, I would suggest at least two per person, maybe three depending on your guests. I know my husband could eat three, I on the other hand would probably only eat one. Depends of course on the size too! Baked potatoes that aren't eaten can always be saved %26amp; used for other things so they won't go to waste. As for different toppings, I like butter, sour cream, bacon, cheese sauce, chili, salsa, chorizo....mmmm what time is dinner?
Reply:baked potato bar... bacon, chives, sour cream, cheddar cheese, broccoli, chili, salsa
Mashed Potato Bar - (serve in bowls or cups) you can use the same toppings as above. (might be better for the kids)
Reply:15 to 20. 2 per guest and a few extras since the kids might not eat as much.
as for toppings...bacon bits, salsa, sour cream, salt + pepper, better, chives, cheese.
Reply:i would say about 11 or 12. ?
Reply:15 medium sized ones. I like them with diced uncooked onions added at the mashing stage so there is a bit of a bite and crunch when finished.
topping:
barbeque sauce with sour cream bacon bits
Reply:I would say 10-12 unless its a bunch of fat asses that eat more double it up. 1 per person should be good thats plenty of carbs.. Try broc, green onions, high quality bleu cheese, borsin cheese, small dice sweet carmalized onions
Reply:One large for each adult and one medium for the kids depending on their age. I would do one extra for each. You can always do potato salad with the left over ones. I like taco potatoes or stuffed potatoes. Stuffed is cooked diced ham with green peppers and onions and a little hamburger, add cheese, diced tomatoes, sour cream, etc, when you load the potatoes.
Reply:Make one large baking potato for each person- you can get smaller ones for the kids, and you might want to cook a few extra depending on what else you are having- you can alsays slice them up and fry them the next morning.
Toppings:
the normal cheese, sour cream chives, bacon, chili
Some different ones:
Sauteed Mushrooms
steamed broccoli
beef stroganoff
caviar
smoked salmon spread
Reply:If they are large spuds, I'd say 1 per adult, and maybe smaller ones for the kids. You can always do extra potatoes, and have them the next day.
Can't beat sour cream and chives! For the calorie-conscious, I use plain yogurt. It tastes just fine!
Reply:If you are offering only baked potatoes you need to cook at least 2 for each adult and 1 for each kid, and always cook 1 extra.
So.. 16. If you are making "baker" potatoes then you could probably cut back 3-4 of them but why would ya potatoes are cheap and its best to be safe then sorry!
Baked Potato Toppings:
Butter
Chives
Sour Cream
Bacon Bits (not the stuff in a jar the real thing!)
Chili
Salsa
Cheese
Green Onions
Cheese Sauce
Ranch Dressing
Shredded chicken, beef or pork with BBQ sauce
Grilled Mushrooms %26amp; Onions
Chicken with cream sauce
The best topping I know of is taking Chopped broccoli and steaming it, then take a can of cream of mushroom soup and some velveeta and melting that together to where it is more cheesey then mushroomy and then putting it all together and baking it for 20 mins or so. I can get you an actual recipe if you are interested. Its soooo good on top of baked potatoes.
Reply:I'd do 2 each, then extra hungry adults can eat kids left overs!!
Also, spicy coleslaw is yummy...... prawn cocktail and salad
cottage cheese with pineapple is my all time fav!!!
Reply:10, after they are done cut in half, and let them top halves. Cheddar cheese, chili, sour cream, chives, bacon bits, butter, parsley, corn, salt, pepper, minced garlic, minced red onions, chopped red peppers.....salt, pepper. With the left overs you can take them out of the skins mix with garlic, corn, onions and butter, salt and pepper, mix until smooth with some butter and a little milk. Put back into skins and bake until hot. You may add cheese if you like but cheddar cheese not the whiz junk, add bacon bits or ham......very good.
Reply:OK so if it's just the potatoes that you are eating you probably want to do at least two per adult and 1 for each child... But if it's just a side item you may want to do one per person!! and toppings Chili, Cheese, Butter, Sour Cream, salt and pepper, or bacon bits!
Hope everything works out!! =)
