What is the difference between web hosting, domains and such?

I am a high school coach who wants to be able to share information such as practice times, game results, roster info, etc. What are the cheapest(free/no ad) ways to share that information? I thought I wanted my own website. What about domain names?

What is the difference between web hosting, domains and such?
To register your own domain name, something like www.coachk.com, you'd have to do that through a provider. You can't get that done free. I recommend 1and1, link below.

There are free options available, but your website will be something like coachk.someprovider.com.

There's a ton of host for that, but if you want one free, with no ads, I recommend X10 Hosting, link below.
Reply:A host is someone who lets you use space on their servers to allow other people to access it. A domain name is mearly a "redirect" that points the domain name to the host. You do not need a domain name as most hosting providers will provide you with a free sub-domain name, such as www.blabla.com/yoursubdomain

Unless it's going to be a large site you really dont need a domain name, but then again they are less than $10 from most places. You can get a .com domain name for free with any hosting package from http://www.hola-host.net if you really need it, or you can get a domain name alone from the same place for very cheap and then get another hosting company if you dont like hola-host.
Reply:Hi, here is a cool website that you will find you answers to many questions related to web hosting, domains and a lot more. http://www.hostmee.com

Reply:Yes, you need a domain and a hosting plan. Generally speaking, domain name will point a domain to your real hosting server. And the hosting server is where your web pages physical located.

For comprehensive info on what's domain name, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name

For what's web hosting, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_hosting

If you want to register a domain name, http://godaddy.com and http://moniker.com are good registrars. If you want good hosting plans, go to http://hostingmatrix.org to compare those most-reputable ones.
Reply:Domain is just a name, for example Yahoo, Google... or any name which you choose and must not be taken before by any other person.

Hosting is a service which offer you an online space to create and storage your web pages to display your website at your domain address. So without Web Hosting you can not get your site online.

As a high school coach, you should start your real website. Free sites include a subdomain like this: http://yourdomainname.freewebs.com

This kind of sites are more suitable for beginners or children who don't need any serious site. Besides when you get a free web hosting service, they don't support you as well as paid services. And also, there are some limitations with free plans which some times would trouble you.

Why don't you creat your real website with a few dollars. (only $47/year)

Free Domain + Hosting + Great Support Team (Phone/Chat/Email

)

You can go there through the address below:

According to my experience, they are the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you. Also, if you are beginner, I recommend this service as the most easy-to-use web hosting on the world web.

Good Luck!
