Why there is so much difference in web hosting prices?

On the internet, there is a wide range of hosting companies offering hosting from $3.99 per year to $599.00 per month. What is the difference and which one should I get?

Why there is so much difference in web hosting prices?
Some are expensive as they offer delicated server for you.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

Reply:Web hosting varies from free to hundreds of dollars. You are paying for space on a server. This server is what you use to Host your files and it can only take so much traffic. That means you have to take 2) things into consideration.

1) How many people will visit my site?

2) What am I putting on my site.

IF you expect a lot of traffic then you should find a hosting service that has a lot of bandwith (100GB minimum, 250-1000GB are common.). If you plan to put a lot of movies and/or music on your site then you should get a lot of disk space. You should think about 11GB if you have a lot of media but if it is mostly plain old HTML you should get 100MB-5GB.
Reply:The difference depends on what you get for that price. At $3.99 per year you get a web page with no support and no room to grow. At $599 per month you get a high end business-class dedicated server that is most likely mirrored in case of failure so the site will never be down.

Decide what you want to do with your site and match the host and services to your needs. But beware of fake claims like huge amounts of storage space and unlimited bandwidth. That is simply not reasonable for a few dollars.

I spoke with someone who makes claims like that at prices lower than I have and asked if the numbers were bloated to get the business. He said they are and hopes that people do not use that much space or bandwidth. The live tech support is not there either.
Reply:Because they oversell their servers I remember back in the day everyone was offering unlimited bandwidth space etc for $15 a month. Why would yahoo or google pay all this money in server costs bandwidth for their sites? Why wouldn't they just buy unlimited everything for $15 month?? Plenty hosts offering you 100gigs space etc knowing people won't use that much and if they do read the TOS carefully they will just claim you use too much cpu resources etc and kick you off server. Bandwidth and hard drives cost money and what about support?
