Do you have a suggestion for hosting a free to low budget party/ mixer?

I am planning an evening mixer for my college alumni members. I am initiating this on my own so I suspect the costs would be entirely mine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could pull off getting a place to host it without having to pay for the reservation or party food and activities?
