I am doing a school assignment on hosting your own website. One of the questions asks what hardware and software is needed to host your website on your own server. I'm hoping someone here can help me answer it.
Thanks
Sara
What are the basic hardware and software needs for hosting your website on your own server?
There are many things needed to host your own website. Here's a very brief list of just a few things you need:
Hardware
These are the very, very basic requirements
1. Broadband internet access - a company would likely opt for the reliability of a T1 or T3 line, however you could use pretty much anything for this including cable or dsl. which brings me to....
2. Static IP address - your internet service provider typically provides a dynamic IP address. You have to have a static IP if you plan on others accessing your site. There are ways around this, but they typically cost as much or more then just upgrading to a static IP through your ISP.
Software
There are many routes you could go regarding software. You could buy Windows Server, or you could go the more reliable and cheaper route of using Apache. Apache is the most popular and common of the two, with windows server/IIS a close second.
I hope this helps some. I tried to make it as basic as possible, but if you need more specific information, you can check the link below.
